Arsenal are assessing a knee injury suffered by Kai Havertz and could attempt to bring in a replacement if the Germany forward faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Havertz, who came on as a substitute in Arsenal’s win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, did not take part in an open training session at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday morning. It is not clear exactly when the 26-year-old picked up the injury but it is understood that Arsenal are concerned that he could be absent for an extended period, even if the early indications are that it is not extremely serious.
