Mikel Arteta has ended any uncertainty over his future after agreeing a new three-year deal with Arsenal. Negotiations over an extension had been taking place for some time, with Arteta admitting in June the situation “motivates me, keeps me on my toes, and it keeps me hungry to go again” after he led Arsenal to successive second-place finishes in the Premier League.
Arteta, appointed in December 2019, had entered the final 12 months of a previous extension that he signed in May 2022. He said at the end of last month that talks had been put on hold until the transfer window closed but called for calm among supporters after he was linked with his former club Barcelona in the summer.
