Arsenal chose a good place to show the determination, mental resilience and class that will all be required to sustain another challenge for the Premier League title this season. Mikel Arteta’s team were confronted by an obstinate Everton, often contained comfortably by them too, but one piercing move and stylish finish from the substitute Leandro Trossard sufficed for a first win at Goodison Park in almost six years.
For Sean Dyche it was another galling afternoon as Everton succumbed to a third 1-0 defeat from three home matches this season. His struggling team have lost four of their opening five matches for the first time since 2005-06 and the Everton manager must be thankful the wantaway owner Farhad Moshiri no longer has the money to start considering change at the top. Everton’s performances do not warrant such talk, but a woeful run of results would have tested Moshiri’s patience back in the day when he had the resources and ambition to demand better.
