Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal need to be competing for “top trophies” again but has appealed for patience after being confirmed as manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

The former Arsenal midfielder has joined from Manchester City, where he has been assisting Pep Guardiola, and has never managed a club before.
